Summary Ideal razor for even a novice to use. Just keep in mind that if you are using a straight razor for the first time, you need to go shave slowly. Not the type of shaving to use if you want a fast shave. But the advantages far outweigh the time needed. Once you have a shaving edge on this razor, you will get a very close shave, plus plenty of freedom to move around and do som sculpting and shaping of your beard. Overall this is a very well balanced, lightweight, and easy to maneuver razor. Recommend that you spend a little extra on the strop and your brush.
Summary Economical and good razor for a beginner. However, it is not shave ready when you get it. It needs to be "honed" first. If you don't have the know-how you will need to pay a professional to hone it for you at a cost of around $20 or so. But it is my understanding that most razors do not come shave ready, so this is just something you need to keep in mind no matter what price range you purchase. The plastic handle itself is not high quality, and the Fromm name rubs off. But then this won't affect your shaving in any way. But the blade itself is good quality for shaving.
